If you are unfamiliar with Mighty Car Mods’ project Mitsubishi Lancer, here’s the breakdown: for a cheap turbo car challenge, Marty (the quieter of the two) bought a “sex-spec” Mitsubishi to compete with. For those that don’t know, apparently “sex-spec” means that it would have fit right in with the other neon-glowing turds from “2 Fast 2 Furious”…white paint, red vinyl, and all the get up and go of a slug on a salt bed. It was beyond horrible and it didn’t matter how big of a turbocharger and intercooler they jammed onto the nasty little thing, it was still an overstuffed show car that needed a dousing in Clorox…or gasoline. During the challenge, the car, which known as 2 Sexy (read the number plate, it’s legit) got it’s ass handed to it by a modified Saab. Ouch.
After all of that embarrassment, instead of taking the Lancer to the crusher and making a Squish-ubishi out of it, Marty instead gave the car a reprieve: they would keep the turbocharged engine and fix up a couple of small issues with that, ditch the overdressed and disgusting interior and battered plastic bodywork for stock pieces, and set it up as a track day car. You can hate the car itself all day long…find me one Mitsubishi Mirage fan in the States that has kept their car mostly stock, I defy you…but part of the fun of hot-rodding is taking a throwaway product and making something interesting out of it, and when you hear the newly-tuned Lancer break the tires loose in second gear, you know they are on the right track.
And expect to see more MCM stuff coming down the pike, now that we are getting official word that MCM and the dynamic duo over at Roadkill have engaged in talks. Out of all of the cars we know the MCM guys have, they have one car, a Mad Max-themed V8 Nissan Silvia known as “Mod Max”, that would go head to head well with the junk that David and Mike normally play with. Maybe the MCM guys would be more receptive to doing the junkyard build off than…well, you know who…
