(Photos by Cole Reynolds) Fontana California is home to AutoClub California Speedway, where tons of events go on each and every week throughout the year. But this month of September found us at multiple Pro Touring style events as both the USCA and NMCA were in town just days apart. This is our third batch of photos from the NMCA West AutoX, where Southern California Autocross fanatics descended on Fontana’s Auto Club California Speedway this month for the final event of the 2018 series. Talking to competitors during the month of August, NMCA West Racers were antsy with anticipation of this final event of 2018. Southern California’s hard core were talking before hand that the extended off-time between the previous NMCA West event and this one had them losing their minds wanting more racing. Well it should be no surprise that the Racing Byrds put on a great show and had everyone racing their hearts out for both days of this packed event. The racing was hot and heavy, with several new champs and first time winners crowned. Our own Cole Reynolds, who shot all the photos, came in 1st on race day 1 and 2nd on race day 2 in his class!
We always like the format of these NMCA West races because Saturday is an event and Sunday is an event. Separate events that you can enter for just one or both days, and where different folks have a shot at winning each day. The fact that the Byrds also lay out a miniature of some famed race course, and run it forwards one day and backwards the other, makes for some fun and excitement you might not find at your typical autocross.
