Morning Symphony: Autocrossing In A Twin-Charged Mazda Miata

Supercharging is good. Blower noise and boost when you need it all the time is a good thing. Turbochargers are good, too…using the exhaust to make power instead of power-robbing off of the engine is nice and efficient. But like most things, if each are good individually, put together they become awesome. Twin-charging has been used on race cars with great results…Lancia 037s and Delta S4s used intercooled twin-charging setups to crank out power figures that could have been as high as 500 horsepower. In a four wheel drive rally screamer, it makes sense. In a prepared Mazda Miata, it’s a nice alternative to the V8 swap setup and it hustles out! Sure, an LS-swapped Miata will behave like a modern-day Cobra, but this little creature moves out in a respectable manner while making one serious racket! It’ll take serious coin to get near a twin-charged Lancia, but we know that Flyin’ Miata is working on a twin-charger setup for Miatas, so it’s very possible to get a little sports car and give it that exotic, psychotic soundtrack that will leave everyone wondering just what you’ve done under the hood!
