Morning Symphony: Listen To The Mercedes AMG GT RR Rip It Up At Okayama International Circuit!

If there is one thing I enjoy about Mercedes-Benz’s touring car efforts, it is the fact that they make some of the most aggressive noises to ever come from a V8. They aren’t screamers, like Italians are, and they are different enough from the snotty American noise we all love that you could pick out the sound if you had to. The sound is purposeful, filled with bass and conveys one direct meaning: that three-pointed star on the front of that machine might as well be a target reticle for the driver, because they are coming for you, and quickly. This is the new AMG GT RR, which is mostly race-oriented AMG GT (Mercedes’ current super car), but instead of the 4.0L twin turbo unit found in the street car, the RR comes with the naturally-aspirated 6.3L V8 from the AMG GT’s predecessor, the gull-winged Mercedes SLS. This satisfies FIA rules for GT3 and Japan Super GT rules. In fact, this footage is from the AMG GT RR’s first appearance at Okayama International Circuit in Mimasaka, Japan, where the flat-black Merc first got a chance to flex it’s muscles. Godzilla? Bring ‘im on…the Germans have an answer, and it’s just as loud when it screams in anger.
