There have been several iterations of open road racing events in Nevada over the years, and I’ve been down the road that Silver State runs dozens of times on my way to and from Bonneville. There are parts of it where you can absolutely imagine that 150 mph is no problem. But there are other parts that would make some folks nervous just at the speed limit depending on what you were driving. In the video below, a Factory Five Type 65, aka the Daytona Coupe, is hauling ass in an effort to grab a win at the Nevada Open Road Challenge. The goal for most classes at these races is to be as close to your class speed limit as possible. So if you were in a 120 mph class you want to be as close to 120 without going over. In this case, the driver has set this thing as close to 160 as possible, and is often going 165 mph or so. It’s awesome to watch from on board because it just doesn’t seem aggressive at all.
