The Ferrari 250GTO is considered to be the Ferrari, the pinnacle, the point of perfection for the Prancing Horse badge. It’s looks are drop-dead Italian gorgeous. The engine note from the V-12 is so iconic that Ferrari has tried to emulate it ever since. And it’s racing pedigree can’t be denied, having taken the FIA’s International Championship for GT Manufacturers three times running (1962-64). One particular individual who got to try out the GTO first was American racer Phil Hill. Hill wasn’t pleased at being assigned to the Ferrari, but after a short while he grew to love the car…so much so that the 250GTO has remained in the family to this day.
Petrolicious created a film on this particular car, chassis #5571, last year, but have been saving some spare footage from inside the car during the action sequence. Shot in the beautiful style that they are known for, you will only get one view (inside the cockpit) and the only thing you will hear is Hill’s son, Derek Hill, working the GTO like it was meant to be operated: at full song. Turn that volume knob up for this one and enjoy:
The sound of the 250 is a rolling symphony! Nothing sounds like a V8 but the V12 is just as iconic. Derek Hill seems jammed inside the cockpit of the Ferrari though. Didn’t think they were that small inside.
I’m not a huge fan of imports, tho I do like much of the older stuff, this just gets me going!
If you call yourself a car guy, and that doesnt move you in some way, you have no soul.
I have no words for that………..
I’m jealous as hell not hearing it in person!
The most beautiful mechanical music man has ever made. Would like to know where it was filmed, looks like a lot of roads up here in Washington state.
