It’s been a while since we’ve pulled up a good last-to-first run in a road race, so here’s one of teenage driver Jackie Ding ripping through a Skip Barber Winter Series field at Road Atlanta in November 2014. Starting from the outside of the back row, Ding is on top of it from the green flag. By the time he’s through the first corner, he’s flown past five competitors and as he heads to the far corner of the track at Turn 7 for the first time, he’s just two cars away from the lead.
Those last two cars prove tougher to pass than the rest of the field, however. He works on the second-place car for an entire lap before getting a draft on the long, fading back stretch. Just as he moves to pass, however, the second-place driver does the same on the leader and Ding has to work hard for both passes. However, as he crosses the start-finish stripe for the second time, he’s gone last to first in just two laps.
The Skip Barber Winter Series is an entire season of racing compacted into the winter months at several tracks in the South, including Road Atlanta and Sebring. Like most Skip Barber series, it mostly consists of young drivers transitioning from karting to full-on open-wheel race cars.
Thanks for the love 🙂 still very proud of this one haha!
