Take A Record-Setting Ride Along With Subaru’s Rally Team Up Mount Washington!

Pikes Peak might be more famous, but the Mount Washington Hillclimb Auto Race in New Hampshire is just as tauntingly dangerous…and that’s before the mountain’s infamously unpredictable and wild weather is added in as a factor. Prior to 2010, Mt. Washington held the record for the fastest recorded wind speed on Earth at 231 miles an hour, and hurricane-force winds occur for roughly a third of the year. Yet the 7.4 mile “Climb To The Clouds” still attracts many teams to come and have a go at the course. In this footage from /drive’s Launch Control series, Subaru’s rally team of Travis Pastrana, Chrissie Beavis, David Higgins and Craig Drew find themselves facing the course as part of Rally America’s tour. Both Higgins and Pastrana have held the overall record on the climb up, and both want that record again this year. The ride-along footage is great and hearing Drew rapid-fire pace notes to Higgins shows just how much detail is needed to conquer the mountain.
