Sun, a killer racetrack, a very capable car…is this heaven? Well, one quick look outside dispatches that for us, but for the owner of this Ariel Atom, it most certainly is, because today he’s going to take a hot lap of the 12.9 mile Nordschliefe. And he has a passenger on-board for the fun.The Atom is a great choice for the Nordschliefe: essentially it’s the world’s fastest go-kart. A supercharged Honda four-cylinder bolted to a 1,350 lb frame, the Atom is designed as a track car and is so minimalist that it makes even the most gutted Lotus look luxurious. At one point in time it was the 3rd fastest accelerating vehicle in the world, behind the Bugatti Veyron and the Ultima GTR.
We get to see our pilot run down a myriad of cars with the Atom, including some stout-looking Porsches and BMWs as well as some hot hatches. Take note of the VW Golf that passes him towards the last quarter of the track. There seems to be discussion on whether the Golf was being used as a camera car or not. If not, that thing is an out-and-out sleeper that we need info on.

It seems as twitchy as a shifter cart looks like a hoot.
