Ford makes a GT350 and soon, a GT500 variation and yes, they are referred to as Shelby Mustangs. But Shelby American, the company that dates back to the chicken farmer’s first go-’round with Ford’s pony car, is still very much alive and still turning the wick up on whatever they get their hands on. The 2018 Mustang is no different and the new Super Snake package is set to deliver some very bad news to a couple of angry Mopars and a the hot-shoes at GM…or just about anybody else who thinks they’ve got the grunt.
The standard Super Snake is kitted out with a 710 horsepower supercharger kit sourced from Ford Performance. and sports Brembo brakes and a host of options yanked from the Ford Performance catalog, depending on whether you have an automatic or manual transmission car. You get the Shelby-specific interior and exterior bits, stripes and more, or if you aren’t satisfied with just the basic car, you can jump to an 800-plus supercharger option courtesy of Whipple or the Shelby Wide Body package and the Shelby by Penske track-tuned suspension.
Admittedly, a lot of focus is based on the name and the heritage of Shelby, but this is still one sincerely angry Mustang. Prices start at $113,445 and that includes the base Mustang and a three-year, 36,000 mile warranty. Not patient enough to wait for the upcoming GT500 from Ford? Here’s another option. Just please…don’t bother if you’re going to cocoon the car away and never give the long pedal on the right a good stomping.
