The Swan Song: The Corvette ZR1 Is The Final Form Of The C7 Platform

The Swan Song: The Corvette ZR1 Is The Final Form Of The C7 Platform

The ZR1 is the final form of the C7 Corvette. GM admits this freely, though they won’t say squat about what’s coming down the pike. (The tours through Bowling Green Assembly are still a no-go, by the way.) It’s a winged, 755 horsepower bat-shit ballistic freak of a car that people still write off as an alternative for a Porsche 911 for men in their fifties who have to resort to little blue pills and one-night hookups via OurTime.com. The ZR1 has the same bombastic presence compared to the standard Stingray that the Dodge Charger Daytona must’ve had parked next to a base-model Coronet two-door post car. You can see the family heritage, no doubt, but there’s been a LOT of work going on in both the visual and performance departments. You’d even hesitate to compare them directly. And that’s a legit thing, because the ZR1 is a monster in many ways. Put the right driver behind the wheel and it becomes surgical in nature…it’ll carve corners faster than the fat kid at Thanksgiving who stole the pumpkin pie for himself, it’ll run up to 212 miles an hour, and it’ll knock down a 10.8 quarter-mile while trapping 135 mph. Got a good gold-chain joke ready?

What I like about the ZR1 (apart from the semi-shaker nature of the supercharger cover sticking out of the hood) is that GM is admitting that this is the final bow for the C7. The car has gone from mild to nuclear meltdown, and that’s as far as the chassis is going to go. This means that GM can finally get the final details sorted on the upcoming C8. Which means we all are one step closer to knowing if we won or lost the “Mid Engine Corvette” betting pool. Go for a ride with Mike Musto and let him show you the charms behind this howler of a machine!

The next Vette will be mid engined and fitted at last with an engine that does not have pushrods! Welcome to the 21st century and twin overhead cams Chevrolet!

I’ve already seen images of it and it is by far and away the finest and most radical Corvette of all time.

  2. Singapore Hot Rod

I don’t know what is more impressive: The Corvette (its awesome) or the color symmetry of Musto’s beard.

There are plenty of videos of the next Corvette wearing camouflage driving around and it gives a decent idea of how it will look. I don’t think it will be anywhere near affordable though and the Corvette was always a car regular guys could get into…base models and not a ZR1 obviously.
