There are several motorsports “country clubs” around the world, with several big ones here in the United States. If you aren’t a member, then they aren’t all talked about as much as you might expect, but some of these places are really cool and fun. Not cheap, but really cool. I have personally known a couple of groups putting together country club style tracks and know that there have been a lot that have been dreamed up but never built as well. But I’m not sure how many have actually paved a race track and then closed up after that! But that is exactly what happened at Competition Ridge, a race track located in the middle of the Arizona desert that was scheduled to become a lower cost alternative to other country club race tracks, where members would buy property to build their own homes and shops and then have access to the race track for very little cost because they would have ownership in the facility.
Plans included the 1.7 mile road course that is currently paved, an oval track, and also a 1/4 mile dragstrip. Only the road course was paved during construction, but the oval track is visible as it has been graded.
The website for the track has been gone for years, the track has been sitting “finished” for 15 years at this point, and there are no member buildings as far as we can tell from the video below. Check it out and let us know what you think. We’re not sure if the original builders are interested in selling it or not, what that sale price would look like in the current real estate market, or what, but it sure is interesting.
The track does look better than I would have expected after sitting for 15 years, but I’m sure a close look would show that it needs some love. With that said, I can imagine this being a fun place for some ultra rich folks to have some fun.
