Track days are cool and all, but there is one problem: it’s one day, and usually one afternoon. Unless you’re lucky enough to show up at an event with a small amount of participants, your track time will be limited. And where is the fun in that? In one of the larger countries on the planet, you’d think that there would be a way to incorporate a road-rally style event, and it appears that the SCCA is giving it a shot. They are calling it “Targa Southland” and are testing waters to see if there is any interest. This will take place between August 11-14, 2016 and will tour the Southeast. There is an entry fee of $395 for a team, only 100 cars will be allowed to enter, there are meal plans available, and there will be plenty of racing. You will be driving at Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway, Atlanta Motorsports Park, and NCM Motorsports Park. In addition, there will be a road rally through the mountainous region of northern Georgia and a cook out and car show at a super secret-squirrel location somewhere in Kentucky. You can choose to compete in the Targa or just hang with the group and enjoy the activities without having to deal with competition. If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, you’d be hard-pressed to do better than this, especially if you enjoy hitting the apexes!

If I wasn’t already occupied with another great SCCA event, I’d be all over this. That event is SCCA’s CAM Challenge East @ Grissom Aeroplex in Bunker Hill Indiana. We’re expecting over 100 muscle cars, Pro Touring machines, and hot rods battling for honors in a 2 day autocross on some of the grippiest concrete known to man!
