In just his third weekend racing in the TCR International Series, Attila Tassi—who has an excellent racing name, we might add—found out the hard way the problems that a front-tire puncture can cause for a front-wheel drive car. Tassi’s Seat Leon suffered a right-front tire failure in the final lap of Race 1 last weekend at Spa Francorchamps. Without any grip on the load-bearing corner of a high-speed left-handed turn, the Seat tracked straight and it piled into the tire barrier.
Amazingly, the 16-year-old Tassi was completely unharmed in the crash and his B3 Racing Team Hungary crew were able to unbend the Seat in just a few hours. Tassi took the green flag for the next day’s race from fourth position, though a drive-through penalty cost him a golden chance at his first points TCR points and he finished a disappointing 15th place, although not too disappointing considering his Leon looked completely wrecked at first glance.
