We’re not making this up. The guys at GovPlanet have 283 Humvees for sale in their giant government surplus liquidation. We’re a little late to the party, as there were tons more up for sale/auction, but there are still plenty for some of you to grab hold of. Prices start at $4000 and that could be for a runner or a project. Starting around $5000 or so you can definitely find runners. BUT…we aren’t sure we wouldn’t get one that doesn’t run so as to save some money since we don’t want the 6.2 or 6.5 diesel anyway. We’d put an LS in one for sure, and maybe a Cummins or Duramax if we thought we could pull it off.
One of these would be a riot for sure.

With that level of imagination you’d be better off with a beaten up old wreck of a Land Rover and you could stick your head out of the window making broom broom noises to hide the clattering of the worn out stock diesel engine…..
Land Rover, now there is a sorry vehicle if they ever was one. The ones that own an older model (there aren’t many trust me), have sitting in their driveway or backyard. Why? Cause they’re junk!

If any vehicle ever cried out for a Cummins a Humvee would be it. Scrap that POS Chevy Diesel and hook a nice 12V Cummins to the TH400 or 4L80E that these have in them. Feel free to add as many performance parts as you want until stuff starts to blow up.
A good running 6.2L Diesel or a Good Running 6.5L Diesel is worth what a 6.0L truck engine is.
Yet with some parts off a 6.5L TD parts truck you can make the HUMVEE Roar. Not to mention if you spend the money a LS swap would cost on Lockers in both Diffs, then you can actually get threw obstacles, not be one.
