Napco equipped 4×4 vehicles form the 1950’s were awesome. Sometimes you see them still, but not very often because they were typically worked really hard and therefore didn’t survive. After all, the 1956 Suburban you see here is more than 60 years old. Back then, if you wanted a 4×4 you had to order a kit and install it yourself or have a local mechanic handle it for you. That’s what happened to this particular 1956 Suburban, but in 2013. What? Yeah, the owner purchased this Suburban full restored to the perfection you see here, and THEN added all the Napco stuff to it. As the seller says, it basically had a frame down restoration.
This thing is stunning and we love it.
Here is what the seller has to say.
I purchased this amazing carryall restored and stock 2wd in 2013.
I had it shipped to Arizona to one of the country’s top Napco experts for its new life as a Napco 4×4.
Factory 4×4 vehicles did not really start until sometime in 1957-58, so if you wanted your pre-1957 rig converted you could order your conversion kit from Napco and install it yourself. (see www.napco.org for more history and very cool stuff).
My friend in Arizona had all the correct 1956 Napco rebuilt parts ready to go and did an awesome job, including removing the original automatic trans, which was replaced with correct 1956, 4 speed manual transmission, Spicer transfer case and Selectro heavy duty lock out hubs.
Basically, a frame down rebuild including new drive shafts, leaf springs, shocks, stainless steel gas tank and much more.
This is not a trailer queen, and does very well in shows also it is 7′ 1″ tall so needs a large garage door to store inside.
I drive it at least three time a month,
Starts every time,
Drives as it should for a 1956 with stock inline six Thriftmaster 235 engine, standard steering, drum brakes and manual trans.
Everything is in working order except for original radio which is still in the vehicle.
I am in no hurry to let it go but looking to fund more toys as some kids never grow up.
‘1956 Chevy Napco Suburban / Carryall $47,000 – OBO. REDUCED PRICE”
$ FORTY SEVEN BIG ONES
Doh.
A lot of $ but probably a good buy; you couldn’t gather all of the parts and restore a basket case for that.
An excellent value considering a ’17 starts at $53K, and for that, you’re stuck with some gas guzzling V8 and an automatic!
one more suggestion for the message section, there should be select all button, to delete the scraps, as if i recevied 200 + message in a single, it is too difficult to delete one by one and it totally waste of time
Better than new underneath, and that interior, wow! Sweet ride and the period correct straight six is the cake under the icing!
I think i hear the UPS truck with the big gas six coming down the road now; music to me ears
