Watch Robby Gordon Flip A Stadium Super Truck During Testing

We had the chance to hang out with Robby Gordon and Sheldon Creed this weekend during Optima’s Search for the Ultimate Street Car, where the two of them were putting on a show competing with their Formula Off-Road Stadium Super Trucks at Charlotte. While talking in the pits, Robby proceeded to show us a video of testing high speed stability and “spinability”, that had us cringing, oohing, and aaahhhhhing as well.

In this video you see Robby Gordon flip a Stadium Super Truck, while purposefully putting the truck in an attitude he thinks it won’t like much to see what the result would be at speeds around 100mph.

What’s awesome is the fact that not only does this sucker flip and spin and slide like none other, but is easily put back together for Justin Lofton to run the very next day at the Long Beach Grand Prix. The result? He won!

These trucks are awesome 600 horsepower machines that look just like the RC Trucks you can get from Traxxas, and feature more than 20 inches of suspension travel that soaks up any bumps and ensures nice landings when they fly 20 feet high in the air and over 160 feet from the ramp. At the same time, these suckers seem to handle on ANY surface, and are a riot to watch.

Very neat. Asphalt/concrete are punishing on vehicles as there is zero give to the surface. The Traxxas trucks don’t just look the same, they also handle the same – most well set up RC stadium trucks handle very similarly to their full size counterparts with the modern suspension tech.

Yesterday while while running in Optima at Charlotte in the 5th session, one of these guys came drifting around me with their inside tire 4 feet in the air! I was hooting and hollering like a 6 year old on his birthday, while cutting the corner at 70+ mph. Something I never will forget.
