Icelandic Formula Off-Road Might Just Be The Coolest Way To Launch A Truck Into The Air

I’ve loved watching Icelandic Formula Off-Road for years. This is one of the most insane styles of off-road racing and surely one of the most interesting ways of launching a truck into the air. The landings somehow seem softer than they should, but it is not unusual to see these machines tumbling down a hill end over end or rolling like a pencil. With that said, the competitors seem to worship the action, the risk, and the power as these paddle tire equipped machines have power to weight ratios that are more like a sand buggy or a Sprint Car than anything else. These machines are bad ass and an absolute riot to watch. What makes this more exciting than some hill climb style racing is the fact that they don’t just go up the hill in a straight line. In fact, the course sometimes has them looking for like autocross machines as they go up and down and along the side of the hill. You know, the one that is way more than a 45 degree angle. It’s epic.

If you haven’t seen this kind of action before, then grab a drink and a snack and watch this happen. If you don’t find yourself reacting to the action in this video, then you should check your pules. This is fun to watch.

Seeing this in person is on my bucket list along with Bonneville Speed Week, The Pikes Peak Race. The Isle of Man and the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
