Having been to the BAJA 1000 and having drooled over the thought of racing in it someday, anytime I can watch footage from the race I do. So when this cool video came up from the crew of the Terrible Herbst #19 Trophy Truck I couldn’t resist. It’s over 3 hours of in truck racing footage, including the first 20 minutes which have to be some of the most grueling due to the in town speed limit that has to be maintained. It used to be a free for all in town, from the starting line through a few city street and down into the wash at speed. Because of safety concerns and crashes that have happened with such large crowds on the streets, they have slowed them down for this portion of the race. Because this year’s route had lots of city streets for the first 20 minutes it is sort of like a cruise through town in a Trophy Truck. But it soon gets crazier.
With that said, the technical areas of this course are also evident. One cannot just throw the hammer down and make it through this course. There is plenty of slower speed twisty sections that have to be carefully navigated.
Watch and you’ll see.
The 125 mph in deep sand got my attention BUT the stretch at 105 mph dancing on top of the whoops is mechanical poetry.
Better than Napscar any day
