If you have never, ever driven a tractor…no, not a lawn tractor, we’re talking the real-deal, hay-cutting, bush hogging, lump of iron and steel that will drag a plow, tow a trailer around or do just about whatever else you need to do…you need to. The big, rumbling, lumbering beasts are a riot to work with. Yes, they’re supposed to be a work unit and little else, but I’ve bush-hogged, cut and windrowed hay, and the whole time I was behind the wheel of a Ford tractor having a hell of a time. I didn’t care that I was doing less than thirty miles an hour at the fastest or that I was probably hanging more around 15 miles an hour at any given point in time, it was fun.
I might not have quite the tractor fixation that Lohnes has, but I always like seeing old farm equipment up and running. I get the love for “yard art” tractors, but like an old car in the field, I’d rather see it running than sitting. Which brings us to Derek from Vice Grip Garage and a Minneapolis Moline M602. The M-series was produced from 1960 to 1970, and the 602 was only made in 1963 and 1964, with just over 4,700 of them made. This particular tractor is a 5.5L gasoline-powered four-cylinder, and it is going to give our favorite Northerner a hell of a time. It’s not going to wake easy!
for GOD sakes rebuild that carb!
Engine seems fine…just needs some fuel!
Not much of a mechanic. Is he really that slow or just that dumb.
I guess I must just be dumb, after doing this 250+ times 😉
