It certainly beat having to borrow Dad’s ragged out, ready-to-die Nova, that’s for sure. Any fan of the Back to the Future franchise probably knows the ins, outs, and every tiny detail of the time-traveling DeLorean DMC-12, but one other star car really stood out: the black Toyota 4×4 that Marty drools over in the beginning of the film, and owns after he lands a good solid one on Biff’s chin during his visit in 1955, reappearing for the second and third installment. That’s all well and good, but after the movies left the theaters and the world moved on, what happened to the Toyota? Well, here’s the answer: The first Toyota truck was given away in a contest…and totaled, which meant that the studio had to build a clone. That’s the truck you see here, and it’s lived one hell of a life. At one point it was bright orange with a blue interior. Another point in time found the truck stolen by a drug cartel, only to be recovered in Mexico in running condition. Then it found it’s way to a father-son duo who love the movie and have some skills with wrenches. Want more details? Click on the video below…
Fun clip, guy is having a good time, why not?
Thanks for doing the story on our truck! We are really enjoying it and showing it quite often with our DeLorean time machines. We do many events with the cars and proceeds from these all go to Team Fox which is Michael J. Fox’s Parkinsons Research Foundation. Also thanks to my bud Christopher Rutkowski of theAFICIONAUTO for doing such a bang up job on the video! Hope you all enjoy it.
