So the boss man is out with the missus on a cruise in the tropics while I sit in my wife’s office, borrowing internet to keep everyone entertained. I sincerely hope those piña coladas he’s sipping on deck are very, very tasty indeed. Since he’s away, I figure that it will be safe to publish this little treasure trove of military truck goodness…y’know, while he’s unplugged from the net and can’t whimper over the pictures.
What we’ve got here is a great selection of trucks that have been used in California as available film vehicles. There are three different types of Mercedes-Benz Unimog, six total. Four are ex-German military, one is a classic Unimog 411, and one is an ex-firetruck. There is a Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 712DK. There are even two Stewart and Stevenson LMTV’s in the lot. The LMTV is a workhorse of the U.S. Army, and I speak from personal experience with them…they are a damn capable truck that is actually highway friendly. Caterpillar power and a roof hatch for a ring-mounted .50 cal for ..ahem…”traffic control”. Yes, please.
The entire lot of trucks is up for $300,000 on eBay, or you can pick and choose which one you want, with the prices ranging from the 411’s price of $18,000 to the Pinzgauer’s $55,000 price tag. Personally, the flatbed LMTV for $20,000 would be calling my name.
You can check out the eBay auction listing here.
I’m sure Brian is gonna have a coronary when he sees the auction list on this eBay listing…which one would you pick?
LMTV…. Hands Down
Never liked the LMTV, the chassis is OK but the cab is really tinny (esp the door/roll down window, what moron designed a front window that dosen’t even roll all the way down and then put thin import quality glass in it?) and they don’t ride well, too bouncy which cuts cargo capacity. The body got better with the ‘skull’ cabs but that didn’t help the capacity. Moggs, at least you get lockers and looks.
