The Full Kit: A Solid Old Land Rover That Has Everything You’d Ever Need

Land Rover and Jeep have both followed similar paths: war horses turned off-road legends…that somehow morphed into luxo-tanks that people spend stupid money on. Look at vehicles like the Evoque or the Velar and tell me how either one of those SUVs can compare with this 1963 Land Rover Series IIA. They can’t. There is no question that you’re looking at a old Land Rover…there is no gingerbread to it whatsoever. It’s like looking at a Toyota FJ40 or a flatfender Jeep…you have seats, a steering wheel, levers for all the shifting that you need to do, and enough of an engine that you shouldn’t be worried about power. And that’s all you truly need. There might be an argument for one of the Camel Trophy trucks from the 1990s, but even those are luxo-pods compared to the basic Land Rover that was seen just about damn near everywhere. Safaris, movies, militaries…name it, a Land Rover has done it. It’s only one step above the Lego car your nephew built you in complexity, and that’s not a bad thing. aluminum body on an uncoated steel frame… you buy a Land Rover to go out to the bush, a Land Cruiser if you want to come back.
