The War Of The Big Trucks Continues: Ford Agrees To Test Using SAE Standard And Their Own, And Will Quit Taking Things Out Of The Trucks

The war of words between Ford and everyone else, especially Ram, over truck towing capabilities and ratings continues. Ford is going to test their Super Duty line to the SAE J2807 rating, the one that Ram has been using and GM recently shifted to. Additionally, Ford has agreed to stop removing certain items (jack, rear bumper, console and other small items) as they had done in the past. This is certainly due to the pressure created by Ram: they had been using that practice as a reason to argue that Ford was fudging some numbers to look superior in advertisements. And Ram knew exactly what they were doing: If everyone else is playing ball but Ford won’t, it’s very easy to make it appear that Ford was in the wrong for refusing to meet the standard.

It’s odd to see how the focus has shifted from who was able to claim best-in-class to who is tossing things out of the truck to make weight. Ford still hasn’t fully abandoned it’s in-house testing procedure, either. They are just using the J2807 rating as an additional piece of information. As more information appears we will bring it to you.
