Haha. The Mustang with a carb'd small block would be a great tinker toy for him to mess around with. It works, has a decent interior and the chassis is in in great shape. Besides, I really don't need 2 major hot rod project cars going at the same time.
Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Sounds great to me, there is nothing that says you can't put it back years down the road if you change your mind.Comment

Now I get it. Sounds like a good plan. I'm very interested to see how you get the pickup to hook with crazy power. I fully expect to have issues with mine in the 400hp range.Originally posted by BBR View PostHaha. The Mustang with a carb'd small block would be a great tinker toy for him to mess around with. Nope. Most likely this one! The original 302 from this car. Provided is is not thrashed when we do some internal inspection.Originally posted by Beagle View Postby small block, you mean at least 408" right? (don't tell mom)
A stockish 302 with a 150 shot of N2O will be more than enough entertainment for him.Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

I like it. Take 2 cars that are paint away from greatness then make them into two non-running cars that need paint. Totally legit

They are already greatness....and both run like refrigerators. Turn 'em on and they work.
Mustang is at the point that I will just want to make it faster and to do that will mean a full rollcage, etc. Not real interested in doing that right now.

I can't leave these guy alone for a few hours.... Haha
Not terribly bad.
Massive amounts of carbon!!
Engine has been apart at some point. Felpro gaskets. Very minimal ring ridge, cylinder walls actually look pretty good. Good enough we will hit them with a hone and call it good. Have not checked bore diameter, but I think it is stock.
Plan so far is:
1. Clean
2. Clean again
3. Check main bearings
4. Pop pistons, hone cylinders, new rings and rod bearings.
5. Replace whatever else is necessary
6. Stab a different cam in it. Comp 268 or Summit 3601 maybe?
7. New timing set
8. Maybe find some '70's heads with smaller chambers
9. Throw on a Performer 289 intake and a Holley something
10. Throw on some cheap headers
11. Paint and jam it in the car.
I was really impressed that there is no evidence of water getting in it and the fact there was not a rat nest inside it!

Is the buick still operating or did it have trans issues? Do you remember the 1/8 et and mph?
You think 70's heads will run better the late 90's gt40 or gt40p?Comment
-
Low 8.60's at 80.xx mph.
This thing needs compression like crazy. The 70's heads have 58-ish cc chambers. Stock CR is an abysmal 8.3:1. I just nabbed a set of used stock 87-92 forged pistons w con rods, so they will help some. These stock heads are rumored to be in the 69cc range. Gak!!Life is short. We have pistons! They look pretty decent. TRW E7ZE's FTW!
