That'll be cool Bob. If you can get them on FB, we can link them here. Hit me up on PM on the camera deal, can't be that hard.

I read the Volvo head swap thing a few years ago. I'm not sure we didn't talk about it .. years ago. Haha. Do you really think it's worth it? There were some minor hassles as I remember it. Would it be more streetable than your ported head?

    /ed

I'd take the head and do it for the cool / weirdo factor, I think you have the right idea. Get her going and build your Forvo mill on a stand for later.

I was kinda sad the 3.7 / 6 spd had to go, this would have been a good place for it. Keep up the good work Bob!

Have to have a production block from the OEM who manufactured the chassis.

The 3.7 was simply humongous. I was shocked by how big and heavy it was.

huh. I never looked at one not in a truck, so it didn't really strike me as big. I guess I'm thinking 2.8 that I had in a Capri II, which was dinky. I can see a six gear being heavy though.

I've got a couple of 2.9s, and they are dinky.

The 3.7 is double overhead cam, variable valve timing, all the bells and whistles. Specs said it was going to weigh 350 lbs, that must have been undressed. With full dress, wiring harness, flywheel, clutch and pressure plate it weighed 450 lbs. Way too much.

Also, remember that I'm comparing it to my 2.3t.

Not happy with the discussion I had with the guys that were going to balance the crankshaft, flywheel and PP. Looking for another option now.

                    Damn.

I went over and saw my buddy that runs Evil Genius Racing, dropped off the Miata transmission and third member for Geoff. I now have a DOHC 4 valve per cylinder mock up to throw on top of one of the extra blocks. Its on loan until I either decide to get serious, or he has a buyer for it. Fiddling time coming up.

If you ask a shop to balance an inline 4 and they tell you that they need a piston and rod in order to figure bob-weights, move on.

Especially after you explain to them why they don't and they still demand them.

The bummer is that when I talked to my buddy at Evil Genius, who builds a ton of inline 4s, he was having the same dilemma. The one shop in town that was the go to place is no more.

                          Bummer.

Got a recommendation from a buddy that vintage races an Alfa. Anyone heard of Valley Balancing and Machine in Ceres, CA? Had a nice discussion with them about balancing, and they are $65 cheaper.

Just got off the phone with Bo, we're going to replace the guides and go ahead and do a real valve job. He asked me what I was doing for PVC, as he had concern that there was too much oil (any is too much!) in the intake ports. Since the VC and block are vented to a cannister, there is no vapor sucked into the intake. He's also going to check the deck and get back to me, if we have to deck it, I might have him deck it enough to add some compression. I've wanted to do that to take advantage of the E85, but in the back of my mind I've always thought I'd dump this engine into the street SVO when I build an all-out E85 engine.

So, we should see the head back very shortly.
