It is funny to think that a company with a history, pedigree, and relevancy like Bugatti is actually competing with a gearhead with a mad scientist kick from Texas, but the truth is that Hennessey and Bugatti have been going back and forth over the gigantic measuring contest that is the “fastest road car” deal. Bugatti played the Veyron, Hennessey responded by hot-rodding a Lotus Exige tub until it was almost unrecognizable, then renaming it the Venom GT. Bugatti stepped up their game, Hennessey matched lock-step, except for one key detail: the Venom does not officially hold a Guiness World Record, since Hennessey does not feel the need to make timed runs in both directions. That being said, a Venom GT has posted a top speed of 270.49 miles an hour at Kennedy Space Center, so it isn’t like the company is blowing hot air…the Venom is a legitimate four-wheeled sociopath.
Since there is a lull currently as Bugatti gears up for Chiron production, Hennessey has been enjoying their position as the top act in town, and recently decided to add another feather in their cap: fastest convertible. Running a Venom GT Spyder at NAS Lemoore, driver Brian Smith let the 7.0L twin-turbo LSX mill go for broke. Watch at the moment he gets off of the loud pedal…notice that the Venom was still freight-training ahead. More road and the Venom GT Spyder could have done even better!
Wow!
The world’s fastest turd-powered car…..
Come on Saleen – show those Chevy lovers what good old Ford power can do..
What’s Saleen going to do, rub his 2 remaining nickels together and hope for the best? (not that I’m a Hennessey fan, the guy has been a crook for years)
Shifts into high gear at 225…
Try running both ways! No record….the wind had to be blowing 20-30 mph in their favor!
