What are you doing this morning? Enjoying that cup of coffee? Trying to corral your feral children together so that they get on the bus and you can have your few moments of peace and quiet before you go to work and deal with more children? Still sleeping and reading this at two in the afternoon? I envy you most, but compared to where I’m at, I’d almost trade places with you.
I’m currently sitting in the local tire shop getting new shoes put onto the Angry Grandpa Chrysler in time for my upcoming trip out to Kansas. I could’ve sworn that I just did this last year. I’m getting all four done this time, and what feels like this time last year it was two new rears. And it’s not just the 300C, either…the Great Pumpkin Mustang had to get a replacement tire, and if the Imperial ever gets close to the roadway, it’s going to need new rubber as well, since the tires on it now are already starting to age out. And it got me thinking…out of everything I’ve ever had to replace on a car, tires are by far the most common. I’ve swapped alternators and batteries aplenty, but in the long scope, I’ve traded out more tires than anything else. Either I’m replacing old, worn-out units on cars I’ve bought, or I’m replacing well-worn units that should have been serviceable for another twenty thousand miles or so…and would have been, too, if it wasn’t for my “exuberant driving style”.
What about you? What item do you go through most besides gas and oil? Are you cooking spark plugs at an alarming rate? Snapping tie rod ends like toothpicks? We want to know!

Well, yeah, rear tires, what else? I drive Mopars and Kawasaki open class Ninjas, so that’s the only thing to replace, because nothing else breaks!
I only hit “like” because you had a nice picture of the 300 to lead the post!
I’ve had my 2002 Silverado for 5 yrs now. The only complaint is my truck go thru alternators. Within 100K miles I’ve gone thru 3 of them.
Well, I have seven licensed & two not licensed vehicles & 3 bikes right now, so there is always a tire or battery crises going on.
Tires and trucks. A truck will last me a year before I need a different one out of boredom.
Tars (as we say here). We’ve learned to go with either Michelins or Pirellis and they’ve done us well. Just got new tires on Truck the Dodge/Cummins and they had lasted almost exactly half as long as Michelin said they would. And I only paid half! Can’t beat that! The set that just wore out were warranted for 75K but they’ve slightly changed that tire and reduced the new warranty to 50K – probably too may “assertive” drivers like me. Anyhow, I have zero complaints.
The Pirellis on Nelly the HHR have been there for years and seem to have no interest in giving up their spots for a long time. Vanna the Van came with Kuhmos and we decided to drive ’em ’till they die but so far so good.
We keep them all aired up and rotated regularly and thet seems to be paying off.
