    The expense of either . . . .

Paint seems easier to mess up and more time-consuming to fix when you do. And the clock is running for several of the operations. Besides, paint prep involves a lot of dirty, smelly, mindless work.

Engine building is a matter of taking your time, measuring carefully, fitting the parts, keeping things clean, and carefully following your checklist. Much less stressful. (but kind of expensive if things go “bang”)

I have plenty of used paint and sandpaper, just come sweep my shop floor and you can have it for free.

Paint, don’t like the smell and I’m just going to screw it up either doing it or after.

Painting. I’ve never really gotten good at it. But I can make any engine purr like the family kitten. Even Chovie engines, which ain’t easy.

I would rather build motors, transmissions, and lay my head in 45 year old gear oil than do another major bodyjob
