Recently my friend Doug Cook from Motion Raceworks posted this on Facebook. “If you are a racer and want to be reinvigorated about hot rodding more than ever, I highly suggest building a burnout car with spare parts you have lying around.
Most fun we have ever had with a build… Carry on!”
It got me thinking. Let’s say I have nothing but money and am trying to figure out how to spend some of it. And let’s say I decide that making people happy is what I’m spending the money on. But I have to do it like a real hot rodder would, and that means for the good of hot rodders!
So I take some cash, divide it up into $3,500 bundles, and start walking up to people at car events. You happen to be one of those folks. I tell you that I will hand you this $3,500 in cash with only one commitment from you. What’s the commitment you ask? Well, its that you are required to build a vehicle that absolutely provides you with the most fun possible.
Deal. Or at least that’s what I would say. Assuming you are smart and fun and truly live and breath motorized fun, then you’ll take the money too. But now you have to decide what to build! That’s okay, I know you can think of something. But it needs to be really good. So what do you build?
I’d build a 24 Hours of Lemons car with $3500.
crown vic interceptor + 33\” all terrains + busch light
smallest car with biggest engine (like the Cad/500ci Chevette)!
Yeah, i I would definitely build a burnout car. I would find a small older Japanese (70’s Dodge Colt or Datsun) car with a short wheelbase. Find a late model smog 454 BBC (dirt cheap), put on a roots blower through the hood add a power glide and get after it! Woo hoo!!
Buy a S10/Blazer, a sbc w/turbo 350, a high stall tc, some sticky tire, and have fun!
I think I just found my next project.
With 3500 I could buy and prep 6 demo derby/off road race vehicles and have fun all summer. 500 max per vehicle plus extra tires/radiator/fuel etc.
I would give all prize money to driver as pay.
Build a burnout car? Every car is a burnout car, some just better than others.
