Question Of The Day: What Would You Use The Conley Precision Engines “Stinger 609” V8 For?

Would you just look at that. At eleven inches tall, fourteen inches long and six inches wide, the Conley Precision Engines “Stinger 609″ V-8 is a mighty little terror. And don’t jump to conclusions yet…that isn’t just a pretty decoration piece meant to be mounted on the desk. The 6.09ci (99.8cc) V8 is a runner and yes, that supercharger is legit. Take a look at the engine facts: the bore is an inch even, the stroke is .970”, the intake ports are large oval, the exhaust ports are D-shaped, it’s running a dry-sump oiling system and it has a full ignition system. Running, the Stinger 609 produces 20 PSI of oil pressure at idle and 60 PSI of pressure at 9,000 RPM. It even has an electric starter, something not often seen with engines of this scale. And there are options if you seriously are considering purchasing one of these mills, including exhaust manifolds in stainless steel and polished stainless steel, painted intake manifold and valve covers, a high-duration camshaft (we’d love to know the specs on that!) and the supercharger itself, pre-tested and installed, ready to rock straight out of the crate…er, box.

It’s always pretty cool to see miniature engines, but CPE is the only manufacturer that we are aware of that makes mouse-sized mills as a full-time gig. And they know what they are doing: the N/A Stinger 609 makes about 5.5 horsepower at 9,500 RPM and the supercharged mill comes in at about 9 horsepower at 9,500 RPM. In a remote-control car, that would make for some serious entertainment. The Stinger 609 isn’t cheap…prices start at just under $8,300 and that supercharger is just shy of $2,500. So what else could you use the Stinger for that could justify the cost? It’s expensive, sure, but there is something innately cool about having a mini blown V8 running the show…I’m personally picturing a supercharged chainsaw myself right about now.

    I like the chainsaw idea, as this thing is just big enough to be slightly over the top there, but you’d still have a chainsaw you could use relatively normally. And chainsaws are always awesome.

    My first thought when I saw it was a motorcycle, but then I realized it’s a bit too small to make sense in a normal bike. How about a Taco mini-bike?

    I’d hook up a generator and charge the the batteries of sandal wearing flute player’s plug in hybrids while they were looking for kale and bean sprouts at the local farmers market.

    Let’s get crazy! I’d hook it up to a centrifugal blower on a BBC so there’s no paracidic(sp) drag. ling the throttles and go to town. Pro-streetin on a new level.

    While cool and interesting, you could build a real blown small block Chevy for the $11,000 that this thing costs.
