Bizarre Crash In Canada: Woman Hits Fisherman With ATV, Knocks Him Into River

This is one for the “one in a million” unlucky file. A 58 year old woman was riding an ATV near Rivers, Manitoba on Saturday, July 12th 2014 when she came across a steep embankment. She attempted to navigate the embankment but lost control and in the resulting crash, not only died, but somehow struck a man from Brandon, Manitoba who was fishing on the banks of a spillway that was fed from the Rivers Reservoir, knocking him into the swift currents. After a search of the waters, the body of the 39-year-old male was found about a kilometer from the scene of the accident. RCMP don’t suspect alcohol as a factor, and the rider was wearing her helmet.

Without knowing everything involved, we suspect that the ATV rider simply overestimated her abilities and the fisherman was simply in the right place at the wrong time. Everything we know so far leads us to believe that this was nothing more than an accident, and that all parties were acting responsibly. Numerous lessons can come of this accident, mostly to be cautious and humble as an operator of an ATV, to be aware of your surroundings, and ultimately to be safe for the sake of others.
