BangShift Daily Tune Up: “Dead Man’s Curve” by Jan and Dean. Corvette vs Jaguar XKE vs Dead Man’s Curve

We’ve had some cool songs on our BangShift.com Daily Tune-Up, and when we ran the Beach Boys “Shut Down” a while back we asked if it was the ultimate street race song. A lot of you said “Hell Yes!”, but there were also a bunch of you guys and gals saying that Jan and Dean’s “Dead Man’s Curve” was even better. So today we’ve brought you “Dead Man’s Curve” so that you can be the judge. “Shut Down” chronicles the powershifting, clutch burning, tire shredding street race between a fuel injected Stingray and a 413 super stock Dodge. “Dead Man’s Curve” chronicles the same type of action but on the famed streets of Hollywood. The Corvette is still one of the combatants, but this time it’s going up against a new Jaguar XKE. So, which one is better? Listen and let us know. Ultimately I’m a huge fan of both, and would crank either one up at any time.

“Shut Down” or “Dead Man’s Curve”? Which one is the better street race song to you?

Dead Man’s Curve, because it was more believable.

Every town in America seems to have a sharp curve somewhere that is infamous in town lore but no way is a Rochester injected Corvette beating a Max Wedge 413 on a drag strip.

One of the greatest hot rod hits, BUT……this is the re-make, done after Jan Berrys recovery from the crash. Notice the subtle vocal changes, and the lack of sound effects of the car crash! Still, a great song!

IT IS IRONIC THAT IN THE SONG HE WAS DRIVING A CORVETTE STINGRAY AND IN REAL LIFE HIS NEAR FATAL WRECK HE WAS DRIVING A CORVETTE STINGRAY…
