BangShift Daily Tune Up: Gimme Some Lovin’ by The Spencer Davis Group 1966 – A Days Of Thunder Favorite

Gimme Some Lovin’ rules. It was #2 in the UK in 1966, #7 in the US, and is Rolling Stone Magazine’s #247 of the top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. We can’t argue with that, because The Spencer Davis Group knocked it out of the park with this one. Of course for a lot of us the song really came to life in new ways once it was used in the movie Days of Thunder, in 1990. Fake, real, or otherwise, Days of Thunder is arguably as responsible for the popularity of NASCAR as the racing itself. Some of the greatest lines of our generation are in that movie, and some of them can be heard in one of the two videos we’ve included in today’s BangShift Daily Tune Up.

The first video is from the movie, and includes the Spencer Davis Group original plus plenty of good movie lines, including the famed Harry Hogg (Robert Duval) and Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise) pace car conversation.

Harry “Alright…While we’re still under a caution I want you to go out on that track and hit the pace car.”

Cole “Hit the pace car?”

Harry “Hit the PACE CAR!”

Cole “What For?”

Harry “Cause you hit every other god damn thing out there, I want you to be perfect!”

That’s awesome! We love that stuff.

The second video shows The Spencer Davis Group performing the song with no movie lyrics to take away from the great song.
