The description of the car, the strip, the girl, the dream…all of it romanticizes street racing just like all our own old stories. It’s not that the details are more or less real from one story to the next, it’s just the delivery that changes the mystique, the feel, the emotion. This is one of Bruce Springsteen’s well told “storytelling songs” and the story is a cool one. Like most everything Springsteen sings, this one has a huge cult following, and several critics say it is actually his best written and performed song. It’s commercial success isn’t up there with the hits that were on the “Born in the U.S.A.” album, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a cool song.

In light of Ray Manzarek’s passing today ….. might I suggest putting up The Doors ” Break On Through ” ( to the other side ) ?
Especially since its the song Cadillac could not license for their new 2013 ad campaign for Love or massive amounts of money ( $15 million to be exact )
The only Bruce song I can stand….
