The Beach Boys “Shut Down” may be the coolest street race song ever. I grew up listening to it, and my first album was the Beach Boys Greatest Hits on Vinyl. I loved it then and still love it now. Shut Down was on the famed Beach Boys Little Deuce Coupe album, and if you haven’t ever heard this song, then turn it up, close your eyes, and imagine being in the seat, banging gears, cause this one describes all the details.

Great tune! The Coupe on that album cover is so burned into brain that when I saw it at autoram (around 01 maybe) I stared for about 20 solid minutes. It’s a little gawdy but perfect at the same time.
I was a spoiled brat in high school. My dad gave me a 1963 red split window Corvette. It was a 327 fuel injected, 4 speed, 4.11 posi. I took it to Fremont Drag Strip after I had headers and cheater slicks. 13.20@109mph. When this song came out I raced everything in site and had a lottttttttttttttttttttttttt of tickets to prove it.
The first long play record I bought……….wonder where it is now.
