BangShift Tune-Up: “Highway Tune” by Greta Van Fleet (2016)

BangShift Tune-Up: “Highway Tune” by Greta Van Fleet (2016)

Seeing how I’ve just come off of the road after clocking another six hundred miles on the Chrysler’s electronic odometer, and how Chad and Cole are running a cannonball drive to get here that is well over double my trip’s length pretty much necessitated some kind of good rock music, and what better to hit you with that something current that (A) has the perfect tie-in to road-tripping by name alone, and (B) just flat-out rocks? Hey…it’s been a long day, I’ll use whatever segway I needto make this sucker work.

Greta Van Fleet is a relative newcomer to the scene, with “Highway Tune” being their breakout single. The riff to this one was in the works back in 2010…when the band members would’ve been in middle school. Twin brothers Josh (vocals) and Jake Kiszka (guitar) are 21, with bassist Sam Kiszka and drummer Danny Wagner only just out of high school. Straight out of high-school, I was in the army and at 21, the age of the older twins, I was in Iraq for the first time. These guys, meanwhile, have opened for Bob Seger, played with Rob Zombie and Pop Evil, and can claim, with this song, that they have one of the fastest-charting number one songs on the Billboard Top 100 Mainstream Rock chart. If you haven’t heard of these guys, hit play. It’s worth a couple of minutes of your time.

  1. Rock On

I don’t think that Robert Plant has anything to worry about, but good to see that the kids are still rocking!

  2. CoffeeJoe

These guys ROCK! I loved this song as soon as I heard it the first time. Damned “corporate” radio stations wont play anything like this. We have a classics station that plays the same thing as the “rock” station.

Good to hear some real rock and roll from someone younger than me, there is some hope for the next generation.
