BangShift Tune-Up: “The Zephyr Song” by Red Hot Chili Peppers (2002)

BangShift Tune-Up: “The Zephyr Song” by Red Hot Chili Peppers (2002)

In a change versus the majority of the last ten years for me, I’ve spent the last couple months waking up just before the sun driving just as the first few beams of light go bright. When the trees are fire orange, crimson red and yellowing gold, it makes for a great sight as the final traces of the morning fog lift and the frost sparkles on the ground. Normally I’m the guy who wakes up at ten in the morning (if you’re lucky) and works until deep into the morning hours of the next day. I’m getting used to it…whether I like it or not. It is nice to have the roads to myself early in the hours when the light is as beautiful as it ever is. The fields are harvested and occasionally there will be a deer hopping away into the trees, or maybe a fat raccoon waddling back into the rushes to camp out for a while.

It’s no secret that most of my musical tastes are aggressive and heavy. Just look at 90% of my song offerings I’ve put up here at BangShift. The thing about a song is that it should fit what you are trying to do or trying to enjoy, and in the morning light, when everything is either waking up to the light or retreating or a warm rest before the next night’s activities, blasting highly-charged music seems counter-productive.

For some reason, I thought this RHCP cut was newer than it is. Timeless? Maybe. Perfect to enjoy the early morning drive with? Absolutely.
