When word got out that Jeep was going to crank out a pickup, many celebrated. Ever since the J-series truck ceased production in 1988 and the Comanche disappeared in 1992, fans of the company have been begging for a truck, either a pickup or a truck-like adaptation of the Wrangler in the spirit of the CJ-10 or the CJ-8 Scrambler. We do know that FCA is juggling some product lines around at Toledo, the home of the Wrangler, but as of yet we haven’t seen any indication of what the new Jeep pickup could look like.
However, one possibility has made it’s appearance for the South American market, and we can’t help but notice a family lineage to a North American Jeep product. This is the recently unveiled Fiat Toro, a four-door pickup, and the first immediate thought we had after looking at the pictures didn’t quite sit well with us: that’s effectively a repurposed Jeep Cherokee nose, isn’t it? So does a lot of the sheetmetal from the bed forward to us. We’re not knocking the KL- Cherokee, but this isn’t exactly what the Jeep faithful were hoping for. However, it seems that the Toro has it’s roots in an even more maligned Jeep product: the new Renegade. As far as engines go, it’s sporting the 1.8L and 2.0L four-cylinders, with either a six-speed automatic or manual, and four-wheel-drive is available.
Again, we’re only speculating at this point, because we’re hoping for a Wrangler-based pickup ourselves too. Jeep, don’t bother if you’re sending us a Renegade with a bed.

Baja, Baja… BMT, that’s funny! 🙂
Ahhhhh
memories of the ole Jeep Comanche
did had a Pioneer 8ft bed and we LOVED it
and a friend at work had the short bed 5spd Sport model and he would chirp into 4th
the burn outs that truck did went on for like miles and miles
that good ole Jeep 4.0 straight 6
add the hell cat power train to a new Comanche model and i may want to give up my Ridgeline
The front of the “proposed” pickup looks like Marvin from “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”!
This is every bit the afterbirth one would expect from Fiat.
RIP Jeep
If you squint a little bit the plate reads “turd”. Just sayin’.
Ugh! Noooo! This isnt what I was thinking when they said Jeep Pickup.
I associate Fix It Again Tonys with macho big truck Viagra.
Well guess I’m keeping the good ol’ TJ. For the life of me I just don’t know why FCA doesn’t just drop a 2 door JK tub on a 2500 ram frame (for the solid axles) and make a flat sided simple bed. I’ll buy one now.
