With Spring’s warmer weather, the thought of a convertible crosses one’s mind when they don’t own one. Sure, you could rent a droptop Mustang from Hertz, enjoy your time with the car for a few days, scratch the itch and call it good but…do you really want to? Nah. If you are going to take the roofless plunge, take it like a boss and go big. Not “$1500 Craigslist Chrysler LeBaron with the woodgrain” big. We’re talking this beauty: a 1968 Pontiac Bonneville convertible, tubbed, with the original interior and the originalPontiac 400ci under the hood, worked over to produce around 500 horsepower. If you’re going to treat yourself, do it right, in black leather with woodgrain trim and with the standard Detroit bassline blasting out of the pipes.
Sure, there are elements to this Bonneville that might not be for everyone, like the gauge pod underneath the dash that houses unnecessary gauges (hey, we don’t see a blower anywhere…) and the green trim color isn’t for everyone, but these are small, piddly issues that a potential buyer could easily fix…painting isn’t that bad, and with that cowl hood, the only acceptable reason for it is to have a blower underneath! With four-wheel disc brakes and a working top, there should be no fear in cruising this road-going yacht wherever you’d like. Fix the non-functional wipers and the clock (if you are so inclined) and find a long highway. You’ll never be happier.
The owner/driver must be a wee bit of a lad to fit over the door bar and under that big steering wheel at the same time. Very cool ride!!
I just don’t get convertibles in any form – especially when some sad sack blows several pay checks pursuing his own warped dream…
That’s because you’re a troll Chevy Hatin’ Mad Geordie. You never anything constructive to ad to a conversation. Go take a long walk off a short bridge.
