Some concessions have to be made when you are playing with a small budget. You aren’t getting a top-tier model name. You aren’t getting a supercharged big-block, you aren’t getting a brand-new anything that hasn’t been introduced to a tree, rock or ditch (or all three!) But is there a positive spot where you can have a great option with all of the compromises that you’ll have to make when you only have five large to spend on a car? If you start with a dirt-cheap car and throw the rest of the money into the performance, maybe. If you find a decently-priced machine, it might not be as quick as you want but you’ll have a nice daily.
But this 1973 Oldsmobile Omega might be that very rare focal point where you find a decent car that might induce a Code Brown moment the first time you bury your foot into the floor. Just read the ad:
“1973 Oldsmobile Omega two door hatchback with lots of extras. .030″ overbored Oldsmobile Rocket 350 with automatic transmission. shift kit, 4500 RPM stall converter, 410 rear end, quick click click shifter, nitrous with two bottles, Holley projection fuel injection, massive cam, tachometer, rev limiter, gauges, all Mallory ignition with high-speed retard. The next thing this car needs is better brakes and maybe narrowed rear end.”
There isn’t any part of that writeup that doesn’t sound bad. For $4,500 it’s high time someone hooks up the trailer and heads to Colorado to pick this X-body up. You can spend the money on the trip, or you could borrow the trip money and spend the rest of the cash on upgraded brakes. It’s going to be a little bit before Spring hits…just make sure the brakes are really up to par before you find that empty country road!
Sure is a good buy IMHO. Then again any X-body is OK with me!
That is a great deal!
It is a good thing I am not closer to this or I might have to bring it home!
Looks like it has an internal vacuum leak; hose running from valve cover to #1 intake runner, unless that’s a TINY PCV valve on the intake… then it’s probably not working correctly.
Sweet car otherwise!
Seems like a real nice car. A lot of money in an Olds motor. That and a massive cam, a 4500 rpm stall conerter… seem like race car numbers, not so much a street car. I would be cautiously optimistic about this one.
