Simple math: Pretty much any Chevrolet product that originally came with a 427ci big-block V8 equals stupid money. Camaro, Corvette, Nova…pretty much doesn’t matter, you’re gonna pay out of the nose or some other orifice, especially if there is a name attached to the car, like Dana, Nickey, or Yenko. But for the most part, the B-body cars aren’t hit as hard with the price penalty. Sure, you’ll pay if it’s a 1967 SS427 Impala or it’s a stripper Biscayne or Bel Air, but find a 1968 or 1969 Caprice, Impala or wagon that has the big mill underhood and comparatively speaking, you’ll get a decent deal.
Now, please keep in mind: we did say “deal”. We did not say “cheap”, but with what this Caprice has to offer you, “cheap” shouldn’t even be in mind. This is how a big-body muscle car should be: the kind of ride that you would want to cruse the entire country in…and you could. You get the laundry list of options that you’d find in most new cars: power windows, power door locks, power steering, power brakes, power seat, air conditioning (including the straight-at-the-crotch vent!), and two options you don’t see much of anywhere: hidden headlights and headlight washers! This puppy came from the factory loaded, and you even get enough room to sleep two medium-sized adults comfortably. That’s a win, right there.
About the only thing that would stop us from daily-driving this beast is the lack of overdrive, and that’s nothing that a good GearVendors unit couldn’t take care of. Otherwise, you have a two-door coupe with room to spare and styling that is both muscular and handsome at the ready. We would rock this beast in a heartbeat, because not letting that big-block haul you around the interstates of America at a cruising RPM and a healthy speed is really a shame.

I see the trend for fitting Cragar S/S wheels to cars that look so wrong with them has been taken to a new extreme. It’s like the craze here in the UK for putting Minilites on anything made before the 1980s regardless of how crap they look – its a case of fashion taking second place to good taste…
#1 cragar S/S wheels look great on anything
in the 70’s I worked at a chevy dealer the dealer owner had this cars twin as a four door hard top
with bucket seat floor consul and the tri power 427 under the hood
That is one sweet ride! Sorry Geordie but everything looks better with Cragars SS’s! Green cars are not my favorite but anything with a 427 conquers all!
Unfortunately the UK doesn’t understand that SS’s were on everything from funnycars to Pinto’s in the 60’s and the 70’s. They are the most popular aftermarket wheel of all time….
One of THE most classic and timeless wheels ever made, Cragar SS look good on anything. the same cannot be said for 22″ Spinners. haha
Exactly. The name Cragar defined aftermarket wheels, to the point where knock-off where being produced.
I have a ’70 Impala coupe w/a 454, ac, etc – with a 2:73 rear gear & the og 350t, I’m turning about 2200rpm @ 70mph & Plenty of pedal left – don’t think I’d need an od – it can also hold it’s own from a dead stop w/most cars – its Lemonwood yellow with torq-thrust…..
Ditto with BigSky, i was thinking that car probably had a 2.73 or 3.08 rear, doesn’t even need overdrive..
Also, Cragars are perfect, but theres so much wheelwell in those cars its a shame not to fill it up with tire, at least a 275 in the back?
