Sometimes it’s the little details that catch your eye. In the case of this 1969 Chevrolet Impala crew cab, it was the factory tachometer. Not to ignore anything else over the 327/Powerglide Chevy, but a factory tachometer in the big car is a pretty cool find. Then again, finding a fairly solid big old barge like this car as a budget project isn’t getting any easier and overall, this Impala wears it’s age pretty well. The 327 was a fairly standard V8 for the B-bodies…you could still get the inline-six if you were a glutton for punishment, and big-blocks were on the checklist. Would the Powerglide stay? We tend to look at them as race-only units but if it works, then that’s all good.
From the listing: “Runs and drives amazing! Bought it late last August. Since then, I have done a bunch of work to it: New battery, new spark plugs, new plug wires, new radiator hose, new belts, new (used) two barrel carburetor, new springs, new shocks, all new drum brakes, new brake pads, new tachometer that sits nicely behind the dash, new roof rail weatherstripping, new trunk weatherstripping, new wipers, new headlights, etc..
Matching numbers 327ci V8, Powerglide Transmission, with 170,000 miles. It still needs some work, like a couple quarter size rust spots in floor panels and recovering the seats eventually.”
The Impala is selling for $4750, which is eating most of the $5,000 Rough Start budget up, but what price would you pay to just take the keys, get in and drive something that’s nearly fifty years old and still going strong?
There we go. 4dr hardtop. Love it.
dont try and church it up son, its a 4 door…
It sounds like the tach IS NOT factory and was added by the owner
chevy didn’t offer a tach. in ’69. it was a dealer installed option & was a little horizontal sweeping, impossible to read POS that mounted on top of the dash or the steering column. This one is an ebay buy made to install where the clock was. I like it. Looks factory, & like chevy should have done.
Too bad its not a 4 spd car, then it would be fun.
And a big block, and it was a mopar
I did this to my ’67 Caprice back in the 80’s. Found a full instrument display w tach in a pick ur part junk yard 67 Impala. probably payed $20 for the whole cluster.. swapped out the clock for the tach!
