Rough Start: This 1990 Chevrolet Kodiak Is A Great Start For A Custom RV Or Hauler Build!

On one hand, I’m enjoying watching Chad dive back deep into the world of square-body GM trucks with his recently-acquired dually. He’s been dying to get an older crew-cab truck for a while, and if you get the chance to hear him speak about it in person, it’s like listening to a kid who just got their first car…he’s over the moon and has ideas left, right and center about what to do with it. On the other hand, there’s Lohnes, who is spending some quality time with the family. He likes his trucks big and utilitarian, and if it’s medium-duty or better in class, the happier he is. Me? I’m just happy with a diesel, a manual transmission, and the promise that it won’t be another truck pretending to be both an El Camino and a Cadillac.

Jackpot, baby.

It meets my criteria spot-on: a Cat 3208 coupled to a six-speed manual, and not a chance in hell that it will ever be confused for a King Ranch or a Longhorn or whatever. It meets Brian’s criteria as an older, work-focused single-axle medium-duty that has the aerodynamics of the broad side of a barn falling out of the sky. For Chad…well, he will have to squint a little bit to see where I’m going with this, but most of the cab is square-body Chevy, so as far as the interior goes, he will be right at home, and since he is an RV fiend, we see the opportunity to build a killer fifth-wheel camper tractor. For $4,250, it beats trying to price out a newer hauler!
