Rough Start: This 1976 Chevy Monza Towne Coupe Is A Blank Slate!

Finding a Chevy Monza that hasn’t been done up to death, already V8 swapped, and isn’t rustier than the Titanic’s prow is probably pushing impossible at this point. It has been difficult to locate a good example for a couple of decades now, so as we edge closer to the 50th anniversary of the H-body, one of the more problematic from General Motors, we get surprised when we do find a car that has somehow managed to give the natural process of aging the middle finger and has, with the help of loving owners, managed to beat the odds and survive more-or-less intact. They are no longer just a random old car that had luck on it’s side, it’s now a proper time capsule and you’ll find that there are many people out there who would love to clean up and treat this car, once considered a throwaway machine, like it’s a 1970 Chevelle LS-6.

So what about this 1976 Chevrolet Monza Towne Coupe is so great that it warrants the attention? Really…just the fact that it has survived without disintegrating. It’s still got it’s four-cylinder mill, still has a five-speed manual trans, and needs some detail work, particulary in the interior. Nothing bad, just upkeep stuff like the typical headliner issues and door panels that could use some reworking. A two-owner car, the Monza has recently been re-shot in the original blue and is ready to go. Would it be a shame to cut up a survivor like this? Maybe. But not putting an Ecotec four-cylinder into the car would be an amazing way to go…
