I’m not sure if you can blame this on any particular mind-altering substance on the planet. At some point, while studying the new-for-1982 Camaro, a group of car guys saw lines similar to the Ferrari 308. One of them suddenly had an idea: how could we possibly make the Camaro look like a Ferrari? Before anyone knew what was happening, the group, working under the name International Team of Designers (ITD), were making the hybrid, dubbed “Stiletto”.
A Stiletto started as an F-car, which was cut at the B-pillar and lengthened ten and a half inches in between. Look specifically at the rear passengers’ footwell…a tall adult could ride in the back comfortably. The nose cone is Ferrari-esque and is steel, and the back end (B-pillar rearward) is fiberglass panels glued onto the sheet metal with 3m adhesive.
There is no hiding the Camaro in the Stiletto: from the Z28 wheels, to the odd MPH and KPH speedometer, to the biggest piece of disappointment, the Cross-Fire 305 under the hood. But since everything is Chevrolet, making the Stiletto haul ass wouldn’t be a difficult chore. But would you? As of writing, this Stiletto is on eBay for $20,995. While it’s a unique footnote in automotive history, there’s no way that price is ok. Not without some of whatever started the process of building this car, at least.
Reminds me more of a Celica than a 308. Swing and a miss.
Wonder how flexi-flier that extra 10 inches of stretch has made the car?
Otherwise, yeah, drop a more modern LS drivetrain in and upgrade the suspension and drop some classic BBS wheels on it.
