4/29 Celebration: This 1969 Mercury Monterey Is The Villain Car Of Our Dreams!

4/29 Celebration: This 1969 Mercury Monterey Is The Villain Car Of Our Dreams!

Bad guys drive Dodge Chargers, right? Meh. Sorry, but as badass as the Charger is, that role is played out. Everybody and their mother can name at least one movie role that Mopar’s legendary midsize hardtop has played in. Dukes of Hazzard, Bullitt, Fast and Furious, even Dennis’s ride from Christine…call me jaded if you will, but the idea of yet another evil villain in a black Dodge Charger makes my eyes roll. It’s a lack of originality when it comes to choice.

You want an intimidating car? How about the long black sedan waiting in the rain, with a couple of men in suits sitting inside? How about knowing that even if you were to run from this sedan, that they would catch you. Not “maybe”, but when they caught you. Mafia? CIA? One very, very pissed-off grandfather? Doesn’t matter…the last thing you want to know in life is that a car like this Mercury Monterey is sitting on the corner, waiting for you. Just picture it: the rain cascading around it, with the 429 cubic inch thumping at idle, quietly but purposefully, with the steam from the pipes betraying the ruse with the hint of high-test fuel.

There’s a seat for you, so please, get in the car. Now.

Stunning…It’s perfect in every way. If I were a rich man I would not be buying fancy high end cars…I’d be rolling up to the country club in something like this…

In a black car, in a black car

This is where the lights turn red – this is where your’e better dead.

From In A Black Car by Benway which is my musical incarnation soon to be released on Soundcloud and U Tube.

Swishing Tahitian hips, flashing blue lights, boom-boom-boom giant combers crashing into shore, jerky camera shots and a black Mercury hardtop racing off into the Hawaiian night.

Freeway flier. Owned a 1969 Ford LTD 4door hardtop with a 429 way back when. Long stretches of I-5 went by in a hurry and that 429 wasn’t even working hard at 90 mph plus. Would have been even better in all black. Nice Merc.

Can’t half tell where Ford Australia got their design for the ZH Fairlane. Of course the Mercury pulls it off, whereas the Fairlane just looks like a Falcon in drag.
