I’m not what you would call an optimist when it comes to the idea of a long life. Making it to the ripe old age of seventy will be a gift if I am lucky enough to get that far. But what do you do at that age? You hope that retirement has long since passed, that you did well enough for yourself that you can enjoy the rest of your days doing what you love, right? And, inevitably, at some point you sit down and decide what, exactly, you want to experience before it’s time to go. Don’t be sad about that last statement…we all die, but not everybody lives to the fullest. What would you choose to do? World travel? Spend time with the kids and grandkids? Get in touch with old friends?
Jim Philp decided that he wanted to run one of those road-trip drag-racing deals, and this year he pulled the trigger, signing up for Rocky Mountain Race Week with his tube-chassis 1961 Ford Falcon. Powered by a blown big-block Chevy and looking show-car ready, all the Falcon needed to ensure it’s survival was extra transmission cooling, which was tested out near Philp’s Lake Havasu City, Arizona home to make sure that it would work before he strapped a U-haul trailer out back and made the trek to Kearney, Nebraska. The Falcon is able to break into the 10s, cruises like a street car and looks great. There’s just one question left: what’s next, Jim?
That is a Falcon done right. Sweet ride Jim!
Cool as, great looking car, seems a good guy and am sure he is an inspiration to many. ( and having a blast doing it )
Bucket list ticked – yep.

Enjoy ya shit while ya here cause life’s short.
