Money No Object: A Custom 1957 Ford Packing A 428 And A Five-Speed Manual!

Money No Object: A Custom 1957 Ford Packing A 428 And A Five-Speed Manual!

It’s not everyday I like a car from the Fifties. I’ve got my tastes, and Ford products usually aren’t on the menu. I get the draw to the early Customlines and Mercury bodies, but once they sprouted fins, my interest tends to go flat. Which makes this absolutely jaw-dropping 1957 Ford Custom that much more impressive. The fins aren’t radical…in fact, they are barely there, especially compared to the other brands. The deep, dark green paint has to be the most perfect shade for this car, and the gold/chrome chrome along the side is quite tasty. One look up front shows off a 1954 Chevrolet grille and 1958 Ford headlights for that classic custom look, and the wheel and tire package is modern and tasteful. On outside looks alone, this Ford is worthy of lust, but the beauty is far more than skin deep.

The fun begins when the powertrain is inspected. A 1970 Ford 428 that was built up by Moffit & Bratton racing engines of Boise, Idaho sits under the hood, doing what it does best: making torque by the wave. A Tremec five-speed manual sends that torque out to a Ford 9-inch rear end. And inside, it’s restoration-nice, but with a couple of subtle touches, like the tachometer, auxiliary gauges and of course, the shifter in the floor. It looks like a stunning street rod and will run as hard as a Shelby GT500. Yes, we will have some of that, thank you.

The rest of the car is a 57, kind of weird to use the quad lights and Chev grille. Looks easy enough to change back.
