I understand the appeal of wanting to build your own V8 Interceptor. Cloning a movie car that you love is understandable, but locating a suitable Aussie Falcon to start with is like finding hen’s teeth down under…here in the States, the percentages drop even lower. You tell someone that’s selling a real-deal Oz Falcon that you’re going to Mad Max it, and you might want to already be running when you utter the words…something tells us that your day isn’t going to go all that well.
We’ve seen a few different cars cut up to be Max’s black beauty…an American Motors Javelin springs to mind from a few years back. But count this 1987 Lincoln Mark VII as the most off-the-wall clone attempt we’ve ever seen. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it…is this Max’s retirement car after everybody else was killed off? His Sunday cruiser? Out of all of the cars that could be cloned into the MFP’s ultimate bad-boy, the hot rod Lincoln from the decade of Miami Vice and New Wave music was selected to do the job. Okay…
I’m trying to be nice about the fact that I’m just not into the Mad Max kick. I’m kind of digging the all-black murder vibe of the car, however. It’s Fox chassis underneath, so all of the usual Mustang tricks will work and you get five-lug hubs to work with. The Mach 1-style hood treatment looks pretty good too. Maybe the Lincoln could be redone to be a tribute to Russ Theus’s Trans Am Mark VII? I could get behind that.
You’re burning the entire Rough Start budget of $5,000 on the MFP retirement gift vehicle, but it runs, drives and would have a pretty interesting freak factor on the road. Anybody game?

no, no, no. OK, I’ll be upfront, I own a 73 XB coupe in satin black thats been on here ages ago. Its not done in a Mad Max style but it bugs the crap outta me when people take something totally different and think they have a clone of the interceptor from MM. Be original, ffs. You dont have the car from Mad Max so dont pretend you do. This car could be cool but cutting up a GS/GT hood or similar off a Mustang – no. Stupid pretend Concorde front – no.. Roof spoiler..hell no. Like the car for what you own, pretending its something else when it clearly isnt is just wanky.

If I were to do it I would use a Torino…that being said…I do not hate it. I would remove the rear spoilers and leave the front as is, I kinda dig it. Put it on the juice and beat it like a rented mule.

jesus I didnt even see the Camaro….wtf is wrong with this guy? Surely you could have imported an XA /B sedan? you can still get a shell for a few grand in Aus. Hell there are plenty of people over here that would have gladly traded the t bird or Camaro for a sedan. Why o why waste money trying to make something that doesnt even vaguely look like an MFP car into one?
